Screen + camera, composited live
BetaSuite records your screen and a picture-in-picture camera feed into one file as it happens, with sound from the microphone. Switch to the app you're testing or demoing and the camera keeps rolling in the corner. Choose the front camera to show your reactions, or the rear camera to film hardware in your hands.
How to record screen and camera on iPhone or iPad
You need iOS or iPadOS 16 or later. To record across other apps, iOS has you start each recording yourself in Apple's broadcast panel.
- In BetaSuite, open the Capture tab and choose Dual.
- BetaSuite starts with the rear camera. Tap the flip button if you want the front one instead.
- Under Orientation, choose Auto, Portrait or Landscape. Auto takes the orientation from the start of the recording, and the clip keeps that shape to the end.
- Tap Record, then tap Start Broadcast in the panel iOS shows.
- Wait for the 3-2-1 countdown to finish, then switch to the app you're testing. The camera floats on top in a small window you can move and resize.
- When you're done, come back to BetaSuite and tap Stop. The video is saved with the date and time burned in.
How to record screen and camera on Android
The camera floats over the app you're testing, so the first time, BetaSuite asks you to let it display over other apps.
- In BetaSuite, open the Capture tab and choose Dual.
- The first time, tap Open Settings, allow BetaSuite to display over other apps, then come back to BetaSuite.
- Under Orientation, choose Auto, Portrait or Landscape. Auto uses the way you hold the device when you tap Record, and the clip keeps that shape to the end.
- Tap Record. If Android asks, allow notifications, because the notification holds the floating camera's Flip and Close buttons, and allow the microphone if you want sound. Then accept Android's screen-recording prompt. If it offers a choice, pick the entire screen, or the floating camera won't be in the video.
- Switch to the app you're testing. Drag the floating camera to move it, drag its corner to resize it, and tap Flip in the notification to swap between the rear and front cameras.
- When you're done, come back to BetaSuite and tap Stop. The video is saved with the date and time burned in.

Never miss the moment — and keep it private
Instant Capture, a separate camera mode, keeps a rolling buffer while the app is open, so you can save the last 15–30 seconds even if you didn't hit record in time. Trim and annotate in-app, then drop the clip straight into a report. Captures are saved in the app's storage and, by default, to your camera roll, so turn that off in Settings if your photo library syncs to the cloud. Your captures are never uploaded for you, and Confidential Mode blocks cloud uploads and cloud AI and warns you before you share or export anything.
Frequently asked questions
- Can't I just use the iPhone's built-in screen recording?
- The screen recorder in Control Center on iPhone and iPad records the screen only, with no camera. BetaSuite puts the camera in the same video as a picture-in-picture and burns in the date and time, so the app and the hardware are in one clip.
- Does it record sound?
- Yes, from the microphone, so your commentary and the hardware you're testing can be heard. Sound played by the app on screen isn't recorded. If you don't allow the microphone, the video has no sound, and you can remove the sound from any clip later in BetaSuite.
- Does it work with any app?
- It records whatever is on the screen, so you can move between apps while it runs. Some apps hide their content while the screen is being recorded, such as copy-protected video and some banking apps, and those parts come out blank.
- How long can a recording be?
- BetaSuite doesn't set a time limit, but video needs free space. It won't start a dual recording with less than 300 MB free, and it warns you before you start when there's room for less than about 15 minutes of video. If iOS interrupts a recording on iPhone or iPad, BetaSuite keeps what it already has and tries to carry on in a new part, so a few seconds can be missing where the parts join.
- Where does the video go?
- It's saved in BetaSuite with your test session, ready to trim, annotate and use in a report; in Basic mode it goes to Quick captures. By default it also goes to your camera roll. You can turn that off in Settings, and you can add a folder of your own.
- Does it work in Confidential Mode?
- Yes. The video is recorded and saved on your device. Confidential Mode blocks cloud AI and cloud uploads and warns you before you share or export anything. Videos still go to your camera roll unless you turn that off, so if your photo library syncs to the cloud, turn Camera Roll off in Settings → Save Destinations before you turn Confidential Mode on.
