Reverse-geocoded location and live weather baked in — Apple Weather on iPhone and iPad, OpenWeatherMap or Open-Meteo elsewhere. A few honest answers

Why not just use my phone's camera and a notes app?

You can — until you have to write the report. The testing was never the hard part; turning what you saw into something an engineer can act on is.

Every BetaSuite capture carries a second-accurate timestamp burned into the frame, with GPS, weather and device state alongside it. That precision is the whole point: an engineer can read the time straight off your video and pull the device log for that exact second, so a fault becomes verifiable instead of anecdotal. A camera roll and a notes app give you "sometime Tuesday afternoon" — which is worse than useless when you are trying to line a fault up against a log.

Why is it a one-time purchase instead of free or a subscription?

Because it's a tool, not a tax. BetaSuite is local-first — there's no server running month after month, so your purchase isn't subsidising someone's cloud bill. One price, you own it, and there's no need to harvest your data or show you ads to keep the lights on.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Capturing, annotating, running test protocols and generating reports all work with no connection — everything lives on your device. Only three things ever reach out, and each is optional: weather for the overlay, cloud AI (on-device AI needs nothing), and posting a feature request.

I test under NDA. Is my data safe in this?

That's exactly what Confidential Mode is for: turn it on and every cloud path — sharing, export, cloud AI — is hard-blocked. Everything stays in encrypted storage on the device, there's no account, and nothing phones home by default. On newer iPhones you still get AI summaries, because Apple Intelligence runs entirely on-device; on Android, Confidential Mode simply means no AI.

Does the charge-port test show volts and watts on iPhone?

No — and that's an OS limitation, not a paywall. Android exposes voltage, current, wattage and battery temperature, so the charge-port test shows live numbers there. iPhones don't expose those sensors to apps, so on iOS you get charging, plug and battery state only. Everything else is identical across both platforms.
