BetaSuite is a timestamp camera app with reports

BetaSuite: Tester's Toolkit (betasuite.app) is a timestamp camera app with reports. It burns the date and time into every photo and video. Use Basic mode if you only need the camera: there are no projects, sessions or reports to set up. When you are testing a physical product over days or weeks and have to hand someone a structured report, Advanced mode adds sessions, markers and pass/fail protocols, and turns them into a PDF or DOCX report. Either way it is one purchase, with no subscription, ads, trial or cap on recording time. This page compares it honestly with other timestamp camera apps, including where another app fits better.

The short version

What a timestamp camera does, and what it cannot prove

A timestamp camera prints the date and time, and usually the location, onto the photo when you take it. That visible stamp survives being shared, screenshotted or printed, which the hidden date inside a photo file (EXIF metadata) often does not.

What the stamp proves depends on where the time comes from:

Three common time sources, from weakest to strongest claim.
Time sourceWhat it meansThe catch
Phone clock The stamp reads whatever the phone's clock says. Anyone who can change the clock can change the stamp. Treat it as a label, backed up by the rest of the record (photo sequence, GPS, notes).
Network time The app takes the time from a network source, so changing the phone's clock should not change the stamp. Stronger than the phone clock, but only as good as the app's implementation, which you usually cannot audit.
Verification code or fingerprint The app gives each photo a code, or records a fingerprint of the file with its vendor, so someone else can check it later. Depends on that vendor staying around, and on the original being captured in their app.

No app can promise a stamp will be accepted as evidence in a dispute, an insurance claim or a warranty case. Ask whoever will receive it what they accept before you rely on it.

What to look for in a timestamp camera app

Timestamp camera apps compared (checked 2 October 2026)

Four well-known apps, with BetaSuite last for reference. For the other apps, every cell is what their own store listings and websites say, as read on 2 October 2026. Features and plans change, so check before you buy. Prices are left out on purpose: they differ by store and region.

Comparison of timestamp and evidence camera apps, from each app's own listings. Checked 2 October 2026.
App Platforms Photo and video Time and verification (as stated) Reports and sharing Pricing model (as stated)
Timemark: Photo Proof for WorkChecked 2 Oct 2026 iPhone and iPad, Android, web portal. Store listings focus on photos. Its website mentions logos on "job photos and videos". Says timestamps are network-verified. Photos carry a unique 14-character Photo Code that can be checked online. Stamps photos taken in the app, not old gallery photos. Teamspace cloud sync with role-based permissions and live share links; offline capture. Exports PDF, Excel, ZIP and KMZ; before-and-after layouts. Free plan (unlimited photos, small Timemark logo on free-plan photos). Paid Plus, Business and Enterprise plans.
Timestamp It - Proof CameraChecked 2 Oct 2026 iPhone and iPad, Android, web dashboard. iPhone listing: video with the timestamp burned in. The Android listing describes photos. Records a SHA-256 fingerprint of each stamped file on its servers, and a web page checks a file against it. The listings do not state a network time source. Projects with cloud sync, owner, editor and viewer roles, and view-only share links. PDF, Excel and ZIP export is listed under its Pro plan on iPhone and iPad; its website says Android is coming. Free plan ("unlimited stamped photos, 3 at a time"). Pro subscription. Team pricing on request.
Timestamp Camera EnterpriseChecked 2 Oct 2026 iPhone and iPad, Android. Photo and video watermarks, including pause and resume into one video. Says it takes the time from the network, so the watermark shows true time even if the phone's clock is changed. Adds GPS and address; its iPhone listing also lists altitude, speed, map and compass. None listed. It is a stamping camera. Free with ads and an in-app upgrade, on both stores.
CompanyCamChecked 2 Oct 2026 iPhone and iPad, Android. Photo and video capture. Optional date, time and GPS stamps in the corner of photos; its help centre says a stamp cannot be removed once added. Describes stamps as built-in proof of when and where. The time source is not stated. Stamping is an optional per-user setting. Project feeds, galleries, comments, annotations, checklists, a photo report builder and 60+ integrations with other software. Subscription tiers with a set number of users and extra users at an added cost; free trial; no free plan is listed.
BetaSuite: Tester's ToolkitOur own app, as at 2 Oct 2026 iPhone, iPad, Android. Photo, video, dual recording (screen and camera in one video) and Instant Capture, in both Basic and Advanced modes. Date and time burned into every capture; it cannot be switched off. Phone clock. No network-time check and no online verification. Optional GPS, weather, season and timezone overlays. Basic mode: the timestamp camera only, with no reports. Advanced mode: PDF and DOCX reports, JSON and CSV evidence files, single protocol-run report. No accounts or team cloud; you share files yourself. One-time purchase on each store, covering both modes. No subscription, ads, in-app purchases or trial.

Also worth knowing: the plain Timestamp Camera app on Google Play is listed as free with ads and a one-off Pro upgrade, with photo and video stamping and no reports or team features. That is the simple end of the spectrum, and BetaSuite covers it in Basic mode (below).

Using BetaSuite as a plain timestamp camera (Basic mode)

Basic mode is a setting in the same app, not a separate download, a trial or a cheaper tier. It turns BetaSuite into a plain timestamp camera, for a rental inspection, a delivery photo or a fault you just want on record.

When another app fits better

For stamped photos and video on your own phone, BetaSuite does the job in Basic mode. Another app fits better when you need one of these:

What BetaSuite adds when you are testing a product

A timestamp camera answers "when was this photo taken?". Testing raises other questions: what was I doing, did it pass, how bad is it, and what do I send the manufacturer? Photo, video, dual recording and Instant Capture work in both modes; sessions, markers, protocols, reports and charge logging need Advanced mode.

What a testing tool covers beyond a stamped photo.
The testing questionWhat BetaSuite does
What happened, and when? Date and time burned into every photo and video. Optional GPS, weather, season and timezone overlays.
What did the hardware and its app do at the same moment? Dual recording puts your screen and the camera into one video, on iPhone, iPad and Android. How it works.
It happened and I was not recording. Instant Capture keeps a rolling buffer and saves the last 15–30 seconds.
Where in the test did it happen? Sessions group captures on a timeline. One-tap markers log the moment, with an optional voice note and a device, battery and network snapshot.
Did the unit pass every step? Reusable protocols with pass/fail, rating and choice steps, and an optional required photo, video or dual recording per step. See a template and build one free in your browser.
What do I send the manufacturer? A PDF or DOCX report with an At a Glance summary and findings by severity, plus a JSON and CSV evidence file so engineers can load results into their own tools. AI summaries are optional, opt-in and can run on-device with Apple Intelligence on supported iPhones and iPads. See the sample report (PDF).
The unit is under NDA. Data stays on the device and there is no BetaSuite account. Confidential Mode blocks cloud AI and cloud uploads, and warns you before you share or export anything.
I am testing a charger or battery. On Android only, charge-port voltage, current and wattage can be logged over time. iPhone and iPad show charging state and battery level only.

When BetaSuite is the wrong choice

BetaSuite covers everything from a single stamped photo to a full report for the manufacturer. It is the wrong tool only when:

Don't need a report? If you only want stamped photos and video, or the manufacturer takes findings through its own portal or form, use BetaSuite in Basic mode and attach the files wherever they are needed.

Make timestamped photos hold up as test evidence

This works with any timestamp camera, BetaSuite or not.

  1. Fix the clock first. Turn on automatic date, time and timezone before you start. A wrong clock stamps every photo wrong.
  2. Open each session with an ID shot. Serial number or label, firmware or app version on screen, date and time visible.
  3. Shoot the setup, then the symptom. One wide shot for context, one close shot for detail, and something in frame for scale.
  4. Use video for movement and sound. A photo misses an intermittent fault. Video, or a rolling-buffer tool, catches it.
  5. Log expected versus actual straight away. One line each, while you remember: [time] Step [n]: [what you did]. Expected: [x]. Actual: [y]. Evidence: [file]
  6. Capture the companion app too. A screen recording next to the hardware shows whether the fault is the device or its app.
  7. Keep the originals untouched. Edit copies, and back the originals up off the phone.
  8. Note the conditions. Location, weather, temperature, battery level, anything that could change the result.
  9. Name files so someone else can follow them. Date, unit and step, for example 2026-10-02 unit-B step-4.
  10. Check the programme's rules on sharing. Pre-release hardware is often under NDA, so keep it out of public cloud tools unless the maker says otherwise.

Frequently asked questions

Is a timestamp on a photo proof of when it was taken?
Not by itself. A stamp shows the time the app believed it was. It is stronger when the time comes from a network source, when the app records a code or fingerprint you can check later, and when the rest of the record (photo sequence, GPS, session notes) agrees. No app can guarantee a stamp will be accepted in a dispute or insurance claim, so ask whoever will receive it what they accept.
Why not rely on the date saved inside the photo file?
That date sits in hidden metadata (EXIF). Free tools can edit it, and many messaging and social apps strip it when you share. A date burned into the image is visible to everyone who sees the photo and survives screenshots and printing.
Can a timestamp camera app produce a report?
Some can. Timemark, Timestamp It and CompanyCam all describe photo reports or exports such as PDF. Those are photo-documentation reports. BetaSuite builds testing reports: findings sorted by severity, a marker timeline, protocol pass/fail results and optional AI summaries, as PDF or DOCX with a JSON and CSV evidence file alongside.
Can I use BetaSuite only as a timestamp camera?
Yes. Choose Basic mode when you first open the app, or at any time in Settings > App mode. You keep photo, video, dual recording (screen and camera in one video), Instant Capture of the last 15–30 seconds and imports from the camera roll or Files, with the date and time burned into every capture. Projects, sessions, markers, protocols and reports are left out. It is the same one-off purchase, with no subscription, ads or trial and no cap on recording time. You can switch to Advanced at any time without losing anything, and move your captures into a project later.
Does BetaSuite replace Timemark or CompanyCam for job-site work?
If you work alone and need stamped photos and video, yes: use BetaSuite in Basic mode. Those apps fit better if you need team galleries, client share links, roles or a third-party verification step, which BetaSuite does not have.
Is BetaSuite for beta testing apps through TestFlight or Google Play?
No. BetaSuite: Tester's Toolkit is for people who test physical products (robot mowers, robot vacuums, e-bikes, drones, 3D printers, chargers) and the companion apps that ship with them. It does not distribute builds, recruit testers or connect to TestFlight or Google Play testing tracks.
Is BetaSuite a subscription?
No. It is a one-time purchase on the App Store and Google Play, with the price set by each store. There is no subscription, no ads, no in-app purchases and no account.
